Pursuant to Article 13 of the Legislative Decree 1013/1971 as modified by Article 11 of the Law 3257, the HMGS’ mission is as follows:

• The implementation of all geodetic, topographic, cartographic and geophysics works to fulfil Armed Forces requirements in Geographic Materiel.
  
  

• The production, distribution and stocking of all kinds of maps for the Armed Forces’ needs.
  
  

• The provision of all possible support to the Public Services, Public entities, the Geodetic and Geophysics State Commission as well as the contribution to the drafting of the National Cadastre.
  
  

• The monitoring of methodology applicable internationally to perform geodetic, topographic, cartographic works to be used for improvement and completion of respective HMGS processes.
  
  

• The distribution of geographic materiel to individuals and legal entities.
  
  

• The provision of geographic support in terms of geographic materiel to Hellenic and Allied Forces under NATO framework.
